The State of Tennessee offers more than 90 specialty license plates for Tennessee motorists to display on their registered motor vehicles. These plates represent colleges and universities, branches of the military, special interest organizations, professional organizations and other topics. The Cumberland University plate is among those available to Tennessee residents who are registering a private passenger motor vehicle. The annual fee is $56.50 – 80% of the additional $35 collected is allocated to the Tennessee Arts Commission and 20% to the Highway Fund (Tenn. Code Ann. 55-4-212 established this plate in 1998). The plate can be personalized with 5 characters available for a total cost of $91.50.  For more information on how you can show your CU Pride, check with your local County Clerk’s office.

Cumberland’s newest residential facility is quickly taking shape on campus.  After a few weather delays, it is on target for a January 2012 opening.  The $8 million residence hall will be home for about 150 upper and lower level students. The four-person suites will be designed for the 21st century student and will feature modern amenities, state-of-the-art technology, and a learning space for instruction and group study.

Cumberland University is excited to announce plans for the 2nd Annual Dawg Dash 5k Run/Walk. This year’s Dawg Dash will take place on Saturday, October 1 on CU’s campus with registration beginning at 7:00 a.m. and the start at 8:30 a.m. Members of the community, as well as alumni and friends, are encouraged to participate in the run/walk benefiting scholarships for deserving Cumberland students.

The entry fees are $15 for CU students and children 8-18 and $20 for everyone else age 19 and over. Meredith McDowell, Cumberland’s coordinator for this event says, “ last year more than 75 alumni and friends had a great time participating in our inaugural run and we are hoping for an even bigger turnout in support of our students”.

The Cumberland University Board of Trust unanimously voted to renew Dr. Harvill Eaton’s appointment as president of the University Wednesday, May 25, at its spring meeting.

The action continues Dr. Eaton’s employment with the University for 5 years and comes after a thorough review of his performance.  For more please click here.

University officials have announced the dates for the 2011 Patrons’ Party and Phoenix Ball.

The Patrons’ Party will be June 2 and take place at the Tulip Grove Mansion at The Hermitage.  This year’s Patrons’ Party will be hosted by Saad & Tracy Ehtisham. Mr. Ehtisham serves as a member of the Cumberland University Board of Trust and is the Chief Executive Officer of University Medical Center, in Lebanon, Tenn. The Ehtisham’s are engaged and active members in the Wilson County community and supporters of the University.

The 28th Annual Phoenix Ball will be June 4 and take place in the historic Baird Chapel of Memorial Hall on the campus of Cumberland University. The event is the premier fundraising gala and social occasion for the Wilson County community.  Visit the Phoenix Ball website for more information.
